What Are the Different Types of Codes and How Do They Work?
Unlike older keys, modern car keys have specific chips inside that are specific to each vehicle. This prevents thieves from just using the key to start the car.
The keys are usually bought from a dealer or cloned by a locksmith. The method of programming the key differs by manufacturer and involves turning the key to the on position without starting the engine, and then taking it off it after a specific time frame.
Transponder Codes
Like its name suggests, transponders transmit an encoded signal with a four-digit number code when it is questioned by air traffic control. The signal is referred to as the SQUAWK code and is the basis for aircraft identification on radar screens. It can also be used to send an exact message to the air traffic control system in a crisis or to notify controllers to changes in weather conditions. Squawk codes are often utilized to communicate with ATC in situations where the pilot cannot communicate via radio. They are crucial to ensure safe flying.
Every aircraft is equipped with a transponder that responds to radar queries with an identifier code. This enables ATC to locate the aircraft on a busy radar screen. Transponders can be set to respond in a variety of ways when questioned. Mode A only transmits the code while mode C transmits data on altitude. Mode S transponders give more details, such as call signs and position which are useful in airspace that is crowded.
Most aircraft have a tiny, beige box under the seat of the pilot. The transponder is a tiny beige box that is used to transmit the SQUAWK code when air traffic control is activated on the aircraft. The transponder can be set in the 'ON' position, ALT position or SBY (standby) position.
Air traffic control will often instruct a pilot to "squawk the ident". This is a directive for the pilots to press their transponder IDENT button. The button causes the aircraft to blink on ATC's radar screens and allows the pilot to easily recognize your aircraft on the screen.
There are 63 discrete code blocks that can be assigned to an aircraft. However, there are also reserved codes that prohibit the use of specific codes in areas of high traffic or during emergencies. The discrete code block configuration is dependent on statistical analysis in order to reduce the likelihood of two aircraft with the same SQUAWK code being within the same sector.

The immobilizer on the car will be disabled and it won't be able to start unless there is a new key. PIN codes
A PIN code is a collection of numbers (usually between four and six digits) that can be used to gain access to the device or system or service. For instance, a smart phone has a PIN code that the user enters when they first purchase the device. They must enter it every time they want to use it. PIN codes are also used to protect ATM or POS transactions,[1 secure access control (doors computers, doors, cars),[2] computer systems,[3and internet transactions.
Even though a longer PIN might seem more secure than a shorter one, it is possible to hack or guess even a four-digit PIN. It is recommended that the PIN should be at least six digits in length, using a mix of numbers and letters, to give more security. Some OEMs also require PIN codes for the aftermarket key programmer, as a security measure to stop unauthorised persons from stealing data from modules.
VIN Numbers
VIN numbers are used to identify vehicles and provide an abundance of information about them. VIN numbers are unique to each vehicle on earth and are not applicable to alien vehicles (or whatever). The 17 digits that make up a VIN code contain an array of letters and numbers that can be decoded in order to reveal important information about your car or truck.
Modern cars are loaded with a vast amount of information about their history and specs they act as mobile digital libraries. The key to unlocking this information is the VIN number. This permits you to determine everything from if your vehicle was subject to recalls, to the many owners it has.

In addition the tenth through 17th numbers could contain additional information, like options or features included in the vehicle.
The last six digits of the VIN code are a sequential serial number that uniquely identifies the vehicle or truck. The last digit of VIN code is also known as the check-digit. The rest of the numbers have been transliterated into numbers. The first digit is assigned a value of 8, and each subsequent digit increases in value by one, until the seventh digit is nine, which is then two. Then the whole VIN will be converted back to its original format by multiplying each weight by 11. If the result is same as the check number then the VIN is valid.
Data Transfer
A data transfer is the process of moving information from one location to another. The data can be transferred in a variety of ways including digital signals and traditional paper documents. Data transfers can also occur between different computer software, and are commonly called software packages. A data transfer that is effective requires careful planning and a consideration of the limitations of each program. It could be necessary to alter the data.
A key programmer tool usually permits a technician or an average person to program a brand new transponder for their vehicle. It is a simple process that involves connecting the tool to the OBD II port on the vehicle, and then using it to pull the programming information from the computer. The tool then recodes the transponder to match the code stored in the program, which will allow the key to start and operate the vehicle.
